Samsung Unveils Galaxy Fold and Galaxy S10 Devices

Yesterday Samsung held their annual ‘Samsung Unpacked’ event in San Francisco showcasing the anticipated Galaxy S10 series of smartphones. Along side this, they showed of the first ‘foldable’ phone. Named the Samsung Galaxy Fold, the phone can open up to create a tablet like display and offers the ability to run 3 apps simultaneously. Samsung has designed a new type of hidden hinge system that can supposedly withstand hundreds of thousands of folds and unfolds to ensure longevity. In addition to this, the phone also contains a whopping six cameras with three on the back, two inside, and one on the front. Samsung states this is so that photos can be captured however the phone is held in any orientation. The Galaxy Fold will start at approximately £1,515, a steep investment for a first generation product.

The new Galaxy devices feature Samsung’s new “Infinity-O” display which contain just a front cutout for the camera. One thing to take away from this is that there is no notch like other manufacturers allowing for more screen real estate in day to day use. Three new models were announced, all priced at the higher end of the smartphone market:

Galaxy S10E – £669

Galaxy S10 – £799

Galaxy S10+ – £899

The two higher end models feature a built in display fingerprint scanner for biometric security. Samsung says that because it uses ultrasonic technology, it works well in bright light and in wet conditions, something optical fingerprint scanners struggle with. All of the S10 models include a triple-rear camera setup, one which is a 12-megapixel wide angle lens, a 12 megapixel telephoto lens and a 16 megapixel ultra-wide 120 degree lens for those perfect wide landscape photos.

Samsung will accept pre-orders for the Galaxy S10e, S10, and S10+ starting on February 21 , with the smartphones set to launch on March 8 . Let us know if the Galaxy S10 is going to be your next smartphone!
