Technology: The Meta Quest Pro

Yesterday, Meta Founder Mark Zuckerberg revealed the company’s latest variation of the Quest virtual reality headset, the ‘Meta Quest Pro’.

The new headset features thinner lenses, a curved battery that goes around the back head strap, and the new ‘Touch’ controllers which now track themselves.

Meta’s new headset also has mixed reality capabilities which, the previous headsets did not.

This means that digital content can be displayed, while still showing the real world.

The Rift S introduced the ‘Passthrough’ mode, which is similar however, the Quest Pro takes this a step further.

Although the mixed reality feature is a new addition, there is not much need for this within VR games.

However, Zuckerberg said that mixed reality is “the next major step for VR”.

Meta also revealed the price and release date for the Quest Pro.

The headset will be available to buy for £1,499.99 on the 25th of October and will be available in partnered stores such as Argos, Currys, and more.

The main goal for this headset seems to be the expansion of the Metaverse.

A Metaverse is a virtual world within VR in which you can live your life as normal but in a digital space and as a digital version of yourself.

Meta has its Metaverse called Horizons, and so far, Horizons has had mixed reviews from users.

There have even been events such as concerts inside Horizons, featuring artists like Post Malone.

Using the Quest Pro in Horizons, you can now show facial features in real-time.

The headset has eye tracking and Natural Facial Expressions, which makes your virtual character more like you.

The objective of the Metaverse is to make it as close to reality as possible.

Companies are in the process of creating their own metaverses, but they are unlikely to release them any time soon.
