Today’s managed IT services landscape is changing, and a wave of new challenges are preventing even the most successful businesses from staying immune to attacks. At Itek we strive to ensure all of our clients have the best chance of withstanding Cyber Attacks by utilising a number of industry recommended methodologies. Within this article we take a look at the best ways to ensure that your business does the most it can to prevent cyber attacks from occurring.

Multi-factor Authentication

Utilise multi-factor authentication whenever you can including on your local network, banking websites and even social media. It adds an additional layer of protection to ensure that even if your password does get stolen, your data stays safe and protected behind another guard. One of the most common method of multi-factor authentication is through SMS verification. This is the scenario where someone logs into their account in a new location and they enter the correct details although they are required to enter the verification code that was sent to their dedicated device to further confirm the authenticity of the user.

Computer Updates

Keep all of your software up to date for better security. We provide a “critical update” service via automation to protect your computers from the latest known attacks. Along with software applications, it is also vital that machines are running the latest operating systems and updates are carried out to prevent new and ever changing attacks.

Backup

It is important to get into the routine of creating local and cloud backups to ensure that your data is never lost or damaged. Backing up both locally and to the cloud gives you piece of mind that if your data is lost in one place it can still be accessed from the other solution. If you aren’t sure backups are put in place correctly, contact your IT department immediately.

Encryption

Encryption is the method by which plaintext or any other type of data is converted from a readable form to an encoded version that can only be decoded by another entity if they have access to a decryption key. Encryption is one of the most important methods for providing data security, especially for end-to-end protection of data transmitted across networks. Encryption is widely used on the internet to protect user information being sent between a browser and a server, including passwords, payment information and other personal information that should be considered private. Organisations and individuals also commonly use encryption to protect sensitive data stored on computers, servers and mobile devices like phones or tablets.
